I read where someone had ask the question "Where is Reggie Hunt these days"? It got me thinking where is the kid from south Alabama? Does anyone know? Last I heard he was at a junior college.
I think Reggie Hunt is at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi. According to Rivals database, he is listed as a junior college prospect for the February 2010 recruiting class. I have not heard much in the way of Auburn recruiting him, however.
I'll be very surprised if Auburn signs ANY junior college transfers UNLESS they have academically qualified for enrollment in January 2010 and can participate in spring drills. It is not worth gambling a scholarship on a junior college player who cannot participate in spring drills because they may not arrive on campus until June (or maybe August if they have to attend summer classes to complete their coursework).
It is easy to look back at the past 5 recruiting classes and see many talented junior college transfers who did not qualify in time for spring semester and spring football practice and who either never qualified or did not last on campus more than one semester.

These were typical blunders of our last coaching staff.

No argument here (Greg Smith, Raven Gray, etc.) - but the current coaching staff made a similar blunder in February with Taikwon Paige. Had he qualified, Paige could have played instantly, especially with all the injuries our secondary has sustained this year. I hope the new staff learned their lesson with Paige.
Our recruiting prospects are too good this year to gamble a scholarship on a player with 2 years of eligibility who may not qualify - or if he does - will not contribute immediately. I am all for signing junior college players like Eltoro Freeman, who participated in spring drills and is now making major contributions (after a rough start earlier this season).
I suppose Demond Washington and Nick Fairley are exceptions to this rule (both missed spring drills and arrived on campus during the summer), but talented high school recruits are more receptive to Auburn this year than in February now that the coaching transition has been completed. I'll take a talented high school player who is academically qualified over a junior college transfer who has not completed his academic requirements every time.

Big difference is that Freeman and Fairley have three years (two after this yr) instead of two years that Jr College players normally have, but I agree with your assesment. I would rather have a talented HS player anyday...besides, players wind up in Jr College for a reason...and you know what that reason is....it is no guarantee that they can remain academically eligible when they get to AU (Raven Gray, Greg Smith as you named...and on and on).
