Default Auburn v. Furman Game Thread

Holy crap - jumping all over these guys.

If the defense didn't have 120 penalities on the first drive this would be total domination.

Should it be any other way? I mean good to see them hitting on all cylinders but in a game like this they should. Hope the 2nd team keeps it going and gets some good playtime here with the second half.

Hrm, maybe I am not crazy after all.

I will tell you what though, second string or not - turnovers or not, this team should be embarrassed giving up over 10 points to a team like Furman, let alone 31.

Who was in the game 2nd half? Most HC games see a lot of reserves, and we need to rest up the entire starting defense.

Sorry, but the waterboys should be able to hold a team like Furman to under 17 points. Seriously - 31 points to a team like Furman - we are going to argue over that being absolutely pitiful? Homecoming or not, second string or not - there is no excuse for a 5th rate team like Furman scoring 31 points in our stadium no matter what.

The waterboys have been playing all season. These were the assistant waterboys.

I agree we should not have given up 31, but it shows how shallow the talent pool is right now and how bad we need to bring in 30 guys who can contribute from day one.

Which comments are you referring to?

I'm stuck at work today, but even Rod talked about the drop off that was plain from the starters to those that played in the 2nd half.

So, eagleair, you think giving up 31 points to Furman is a good day? Let's compare Furman's performance this year to today, on the road in Auburn.

9/05 Presbyterian 1-0 (0-0) W 45-21
9/12 @ Chattanooga 2-0 (1-0) W 38-20
9/19 @ Missouri 2-1 (1-0) L 52-12
9/26 @ Western Carolina 3-1 (2-0) W 33-14
10/03 Elon 3-2 (2-1) L 19-12
10/17 Samford 4-2 (3-1) W 26-24
10/24 @ Citadel 4-3 (3-2) L 38-28
10/31 Appalachian State 4-4 (3-3) L 52-27
11/07 @ Auburn 4-5 (3-3) L 63-31

Furman is not only a 4th/5th tier team they are a very bad one. A loss to Elon (that the teddy bears from Star Wars or what?) yet they come to the plains and score 31 points? So Elon's defense can go TO Furman and hold them to 12 points but our defense in Auburn can only hold them to 31 and gives up 266 yards of offense??? My god what has become of our program that 31 given up to a homecoming school of the blind is not an outrage. Heck, even UGA held their school of the blind homecoming offering to 0 points.

I must have woke up a couple years ago in some weird alternate universe bizarro land because to my thinking 31 points is not acceptable to a top SEC school, and 3+1 points is about all I would accept playing a dog like Furman.
