Default Bored, JD Started It & I dont really care about "Thriller"

Ira Berkow wrote ("Hank Aaron Still Wields a Hammer," The Times, Feb. 24) that Hank Aaron hit 41 more homers than Babe Ruth but failed to mention that Aaron needed 12,364 at bats to hit 755 homers and Ruth hit 714 homers in 8,399 at bats. If Ruth had the same at bats as Aaron he would have hit 1,051!

Willie Mays and Harmon Killebrew both hit 45 or more home runs in a season four times each. Aaron did it twice, Joe DiMaggio did it once -- Ruth did it NINE times and before the live ball. Ruth hit 54 homers in 1920 -- more than any other team

so there.....

WAR EAGLE

ps: oh boy, I am in for it now!.....

Just proves Hank is still the King. Longevity in sports is very underrated. It is also what makes Jerry Rice, Emmit Smith, Jack Nicklaus, Cal Ripken and Wayne Gretzky even more amazing. To be able to perform that well for that long is just as amazing as the actual stats. No one did it better, for a longer period than Hank. Hank's a class act and is well liked. Give credit where it is due. Babe Ruth's personal life rivaled that of Da Baar.

Nevermind the fact that the stats provided are a big reach, and at best a hypothetical. Coulda woulda shoulda......Pfffffffft

Bill Broeg once wrote, "to try to capture Babe Ruth with cold statistics would be like trying to keep up with him on a night out."

Suppose I did start it, and then disappeared for a few days. But jonranwill stepped in more than admirably and said exactly what I would have said. There was only one Babe, and there was only one Hammer...matter of preference I guess. I prefer the better one

considering my predilection for My Benevolent Sponsor, I just admire someone who accomplished so much while not necessarily at his athletic best vs. someone who accomplished great things while being sober (that is just plum boring).

Great point. A lot of great things have been done while not sober....most of the good music from 1960 to 1980 comes to mind.

And hey, it's not my fault Ruth spent his first 5-6 years pitching and not hitting.

I do good things when not sober. I also do bad things when sober. I also do bad things when hammered. I also do good things when sober. Come to think of it, I'm doing good things right now. Thanks. I'm proud of myself. Even a little excited. Yes, I am sober.

I don't trust people who don't drink.

I trust recovering alcoholics because they at least used to drink...but people who never drink? By choice?

To quote Mr.Churchill..."He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire."

quit stealing my lines.....I have so very little to work with without someone plagiarizing the stuff that I originally plagiarized...or something like that.

go quote some famous or obscure legal mind.......the obscure ones are a dime a dozen........
