How is it that a country that 40 years ago placed two men on the moon could be on the verge of collapsing all of Western Civilization into the dumpster......are the Dark Ages II just around the corner?

I love that movie.....and that scene may be more reality than comedic script in the coming years

It makes me wonder if those old sayings from the older gentlemen actually had some truth to them, you know "The South will rise again"? Now I know this holds a negative stigma to it because of the actions that once were considered acceptable but Im thinking of this in a different manner. Consider this, where else in the country is labeled as the "Bible Belt"? Where else in the country can man grow his own crop to survive? Where else in this country holds as many military bases and stations? I could go on and on with this but I think the point is covered. Im not talking about division of "whites" and "blacks". Im actually talking about the very opposite, its called survival. Some of us hear Preachers, Prophets and Evangelist talking this up but pay no attention to it nor do we tell those that dont have a chance to hear it themselves. The people of this country are lazy, and I will include myself in that category. I dont think any of us are to proud to admit our wrongs but we're just your ordinary people. The people wear the suits in Washington D.C. have either forgot what its like to be ordinary or they never were. From my standpoint and beliefs, the most powerful weapon we have is called Prayer and second to that is a voice. I am not against the election of a black man nor a women to be President of the United States but I feel the current staff in the White House used us all to have their hands of control. I hope I have not offended anyone but this is how I feel. I did not vote for Obama and certainly not Clinton. Obama is only one part of the picture, there are countless numbers of people behind the scenes that are way to unstable and power hungry to be running this country. Did Bush and his staff do everything right, by no means. They were actually the catalyst for the people in control now. You know, I will tell you this, I have said numerous times that if Powell would run for President I would vote for him. I have always voted for Republicans but in this case I would vote Democrat. Powell is an honorable man and I believe he has the heart of compassion and the fist of iron to run this great country.
That neither here nor there at this point though. I do feel however that its more important now than ever to pay attention to whats going on to keep these back door maneuvers of the current staff to a minimum.

I agree with everything you said underwood except in thing. I think Powell is a Republican, unless he switched and I was unaware.
Yeah, he switched not too long ago. I dont really care though, as far as he is concerned. From things I read, the Bush administration did him dirty so no wonder he switched.

Powell's party affiliation is an interesting subject (imho).....I do not believe he has ever declared his party affiliation and since he has never run for public office one can not be sure if he is a R or D.
He served in the Army for the majority of his career...serving inside the Nixon White House and also serving Pres. Reagan as Nat. Sec. Adv., President Bush (I) and Pres. Clinton as Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff and finally Pres. Bush (II) as Secretary of State.
He has come out in public support of Pres. Obama....but this does not necessarily make him a D by default.
It is a question that may well never be answered, for the good General and former Secretary of State has declared he shall not seek elected public office.
A fascinating individual...and him not running for President was a missed opportunity for this country....for I believe the man to be an American, not a republican or democrat........making him a rare breed in the arena of "public service".

ps: all of the above was done from memory and includes no updated research....so I humbly stand to be corrected ..........on a side note, I got to meet him once and heard him give a about an hour & 15 minute speech.......one of the highlights of my life.

underwoodx6 sez, "Darkness cannot resist the Light." The opposite and the negation of which is also true. Light cannot resist the darkness, begging the question, "Is the world round?" No matter your signature, no matter you religion, social status, personal beliefs or preferences, there is an opposite that has value and is true. I prefer neither of these states only wishing for the center, grey, since the absence of light would cause me to die by freezing and the absence of darkness would cause me to burn to a cinder whether I am standing on a curved or straight line. It is as the Southern Philosopher, Brother Dave Gardner espoused, "It is neither the round nor the square, but the spiral that leads to nirvana." Or something similar.
