Default Women's Team Challenged Severely In NCAA

If the Auburn women play heavy favorite Connecticut in the NCAA tournament, it will be in the final game, the championship game in St. Louis. That's the way the brackets are laid out.

But to get to St. Louis and the Final Four, the Tigers must

(a) win a four-team tournament at Rutgers this weekend, and one of the other teams in that tournament is home team Rutgers;

(b) win a four-team tournament at Oklahoma City the next weekend, with one of the other teams in that tournament scheduled to be Oklahoma.

If Auburn can survive (a) and (b), they should be more than ready for the Final Four.

Looking around, every side of the bracket looks pretty tough. I think we can get by #3 UNC if we can get by #7 Rutgers in that "home" game. They lost 12 games, but most of it was a bad stretch mid season. Since then, they have three losses, by 20 to #1 seed Maryland (over a month ago), by only 10 to #1 UConn, and in over-time to #3 seed Louisville. So they are playing pretty good as of late.

But of the #3 seeds we may face, I think UNC is the one to get. They have kind of played their way down from a higher seed (starting 17-0 but going 10-6 since then), whereas the others have played up to #3 and have been playing well.

The tournament is tough, but I think we should get to the Elite Eight before we face a team as talented as us, then anything can happen.

I've watched UNC play this year and I think they are equally talented...they have played all four #1 seeds and beaten two of them. It will be tough to get past them...assuming we can get past Rutgers at Rutgers. I think UNC will be a more challenging game than OU.

Too bad our ladies weren't a #1 seed...I think they deserved it over Oklahoma.

Let me fix the title of the story "Women's Team Screwed Over By the NCAA Selection Committee".

Coach Fortner is taking a wise approach to the tournament. No whining about seeding or playing sites, just the observation that any team must overcome challenges to advance in the tournament.

To take on Rutgers at Rutgers and to take on Oklahoma at Oklahoma City, if those games actually happen, would offer Auburn the opportunity to go into the Final Four as confident and as well-prepared as possible.

If we can't overcome the early-round opponents, whoever and wherever they are, then we wouldn't have much of a chance in the Final Four anyhow.

This Auburn team occasionally plays at an amazing level - first half against Arkansas at Auburn, second half against UT at Little Rock. If they get the opportunity to play Connecticut, and can somehow summon that level of play, they can win. Not overly likely, but certainly possible.

The women shouldn't be and I don't think are whining about their seeding. They were ranked 6 by the ap and 8 by the coaches so their seeding seems right.I do think with that seeding they shouldn't be playing at a number 7 seeds' home court.Should've been playin in the south. Can't see them getting by OK after seeing them play against Vandy.

Angry What Coverage for Auburn Women?????

I read on several websites today that the Auburn Women would be televised on ESPN2 tonight. I live in Atlanta and called COMCAST today who called ESPN to verify that it was in fact being carried and covered tonight.

I have been watching since 7PM EDT and have seen about 3-4 plays all by Rutgers in highlights at halftime. I have only seen the score occassionally, sorry to hear they are behind, but I really would like to see it.

Auburn is a #2 team and # 3 to 11 teams are being televised. Why?

Auburn Women's Basket ball has been ignored all year.
