David Wilson chooses Virginia Tech/Photo by Phillip Marshall

Running back David Wilson won't play football for Auburn. Friday, he said he plans to sign with Virginia Tech.

Wilson, from George Washington High School in Danville, Va., visited Auburn last Monday with his parents and his sister. He left saying he was impressed.

"They’re in the top," Wilson said at the time. "I wouldn’t be down here if they weren’t."

But the lure of his home state was too strong in the end.

Wilson, 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, rushed for 1,557 yards on 136 carries last season. He is on the ESPN 150 Watch List.

Wilson, also a track star, had offers from, among others, Michigan, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, N.C. State, Georgia Tech and Clemson.
