Jeffery said Wednesday he will make his announcement at 2 p.m. CDT at his school.
“I just feel like it is time,” Jeffery told told JC Shurburtt, TheBigSpur.com publisher. “It saves a lot of trouble for me to figure out what college I am going to. It gets my decision out of the way. I get to focus on my school work and concentrate on my football team getting to the state championship.”
Jeffery, 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, has narrowed his choices to Auburn, South Carolina and Alabama.
Though he said he has always liked Auburn, Jeffery said construction kept him from seeing as much of the campus as he would have liked on his visit to campus.
“They were a school I liked growing up, like Georgia, that I said I would always want to go to if they offered me,” Jeffery said. “I went up there (and) they had some construction going on, so I didn’t get to see all of the campus.”
South Carolina, his hometown school, recruited Jeffery hard. He said he believes he can play safety, his position of choice, for the Gamecocks.
"I got to show them I can play safety (at the Gamecock Showcase camp on July 18),” he said. “I believe they will give me a fair shot to play safety. I like all the improvements they are making and especially the improvements they are making with the academic center and all. It would be nice to play in the SEC in front of the home crowd.”
There is also a lot to like, Jeffery said, about Alabama.
“They have one of the nicest campuses in the nation,” he said. “In fact, I think they have the nicest campus in the nation. They have an excellent athletic facility. I love the weight room and the practice fields, and I really like Nick Saban as a head coach.”
Jeffery said it would be a relief to put the recruiting process behind him.
“It helps me because, after a football game before, we would go home and talk about what game we are going to go see and what schools I am going to visit and where I am going to go,” Jeffery said. “Now, after the game, I can rest on Saturdays. I don’t have to worry about what school I am going to visit. It will help me focus more on my team.”
ESPN, Scouts Inc. evaluation: Jeffery is an extremely versatile athlete that really stands out on the defensive side of the football. Even though he is a talented wide receiver, he excels as a safety but could grow into an outside linebacker. Physical football player who loves the contact. Takes proper support angles versus the run. Equally impressive keeping leverage on the ball whether at free or strong safety. Tackles a little high at times but does a great job of driving his legs on contact and explodes through the running back or receiver. Great body control and can turn the hips and change direction without losing speed. Uses hands well keeping blockers off his legs. Comes hard on the blitz and will not be denied. Takes proper pursuit angle when football breaks contain. Not a real speedster but plenty fast enough when running down the ball carrier; uses the sideline to his advantage. Gives great effort at all times. Breaks on the pass with good instincts and timing. Goes up for the football with confidence and can be productive running with the football after the interception. If interception is not possible, he loves to separate the receiver from the football. Jeffery is a fine special teams player to go along with his defensive skills. High motor athlete that rarely comes off the field. He will be a major contributor at the next level. He could very well end up as an outside linebacker due to his aggressive nature and athletic talent.
