AUBURN - Katy Frierson and Chelsea Yauch scored second-half goals as Auburn's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Arkansas 2-1 Friday at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
Auburn improved to 5-3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Southeastern Conference. Arkansas fell to 6-3-2 and 0-3.
Arkansas led 1-0 at halftime after outshooting the Tigers 11-6. But Yauch tied it on a header off a corner kick from Heather Havron.
Frierson got the game-winner on a free kick from 35 yards out in the 80th minute.
“We started off really flat in the first half, but I give our girls a lot of credit,” Auburn coach Karen Hoppa said. "We came back the second half and played a whole lot better and kept the possession a lot more.”
VOLLEYBALL
Tigers beat Ole Miss for 10th win
The Auburn volleyball team improved to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in the Southeastern Conference with a 3-1 win over Ole Miss (6-9, 0-5) on Friday at the Student Activities Center. It was Auburn's first win over Ole Miss since 2004.
“It was a gutsy win for us,” Auburn coach Wade Benson said. “Getting over that one-win syndrome from last year and getting over it early really allows us to take a breath and be a little more relaxed. Everyone on this team deserved that win. They are working hard, and I’m really happy for this squad with how they performed tonight.”
Freshman Sarah Bullock and sophomore Kelly Fidero finished with top
performances to lead the Tigers. Bullock recorded her first career double-double on 15 kills and 13 digs, while Fidero recorded a career-best 15 kills. Junior libero Liz Crouch tallied match-high 27 digs, while Sara Shanks had a season-best 30 assists.
