Wide receiver Trovon Reed is Auburn-bound

THIBODAUX, La. - Wide receiver Trovon Reed is poised to hand Auburn yet another major recruiting victory this morning.

Reed, who plays quarterback at Thibodaux High School, is rated the nation's No. 9 wide receiver prospect, the No. 45 overall prospect and the top prospect in the state of Louisiana by ESPN/Scouts Inc.

Last Friday, Auburn landed a commitment from Little Rock Christian's Michael Dyer, rated the nation's top running back prospect and No. 7 prospect overall by ESPN/Scouts Inc.

Reed narrowed dozens of offers down to Auburn, Oregon and LSU. He will announce his choice at approximately 10:15 this morning, after he accepts and invitation to play in the U.S. Army All-Star Game.

It will be a major surprise if Reed, who has taken at least four unofficial visits to Auburn, does not choose the Tigers.

Among other schools that made offers and recruited Reed hard are Alabama, Southern California, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, California and Arkansas.

When Reed watched the Tigers beat West Virginia 41-30 at Jordan-Hare Stadium, he saw what he wanted to see.

Reed watched quarterback Chris Todd throw four touchdown passes, three to wide receiver Darvin Adams, against West Virginia.

“I am used to seeing Auburn run the ball, run the ball, and all the passing caught me off guard,” Reed said. “Coach (Gus) Malzahn told me, 'I am going to pass the ball.' I was just thinking run, run, pass, but to me it looked like pass, pass, run. That is helping receivers get their stock up, getting their yards up and getting their hype for the pros.”
