Auburn defensive end commitment Joel Bonomolo fought through a shoulder injury for more than a year, but three weeks ago he underwent surgery.

Bonomolo, 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds from Fullerton (Calif.) College, told us the Fullerton team doctors told him he needed to have surgery because they believed he was wearing down his rotator cuff. But the surgery revealed a torn labrum.

Bonomolo said he should had his first day of physical therapy Monday. He said he should be able to return to a normal strength and conditioning workout in two months.

“The main reason I stopped playing was because they were thought I was messing up my rotator cuff, but I had surgery and it was just my labrum,” Bonomolo told us. “I was just relieved it was not more serious.”

Bonomolo last played in a game Oct. 17.
