Demarco Cobbs has narrowed his list to eight schools
Under Armour All-America wide receiver DeMarco Cobbs has long had Auburn as part of his top 10 and is preparing to narrow things down even further.
But his experience at Southern Cal's Rising Stars Camp this week may have been the final push needed to convince him to become a Trojan.

Cobbs, from Tulsa Central in Tulsa, Okla., told ESPN affiliate CrimsonConfidential.com earlier this month he wanted to narrow his list down to a top five around the Fourth of July weekend.

But it appears everyone but USC might be no more than window dressing.; Not only is Cobbs smitten by the Trojans, but he is apparently close to ending the recruiting process and committing to the Trojans.

“I’m really leaning toward USC right now,” Cobbs told affiliate WeAreSC.com. “I’m going to make a decision pretty soon here.”

The news of his impending decision would be good news for the Trojans, who made him a high priority from the start.

“Everything was a highlight for me,” said Cobbs of his trip west.  “I came out here a day before the camp and spoke to Pete Carroll and Ken Norton Jr. They gave me and my grandma a tour of the campus.

“I got to see the Coliseum and I know that USC is the place to be right now. The type of players they put out every year is crazy, and coach (Pete) Carroll’s record is ridiculous.  It’s a private school too, and you can’t go wrong there.”

Heading into the Rising Stars Camp, Cobbs told WeAreSC.com that the Trojans have been at the top of his list for quite some time, and this weekend only strengthened his interest in the program.

He said he did not meet his own standards in the camp, struggling at times to create separation with the defensive back.

“I think I didn’t live up to my expectations,” said Cobbs.  “I need some work at the receiver spot, because I’m listed as an athlete and play quarterback.  There are some things I need to work on definitely, but I know at this time my natural athletic ability will take over.”

Cobbs said the thought of playing for USC coach Pete Carroll is exciting.

“His (Carroll’s) record is ridiculous, and he’s winning so many ballgames," Cobbs said. "He was real cool and down to earth, and all you have to do is look at the players they produce to know USC is a place you want to be.”

Cobbs compared himself to a slightly shorter version of Mike Williams, describing the former Trojan as “a beast.”
