Jalen Steele averaged 21 points per game as a junior

Prolific shooting guard Jalen Steele took an official to Auburn over the weekend. He attended Auburn’s season-opening football game against Louisiana Tech. And he was hooked.

Steele, who averaged 21 points per game last season and was the MVP in the AA state tournament, committed to Auburn on Monday. He canceled a planned official visit to Alabama set for later this month.

“He’s been on visits before, but I just sensed a connection with the coaching staff,” Fulton coach Jody Wright told AuburnUndercover.com. “When a kid from Knoxville, Tenn., can be impressed by a football crowd, that says a lot.”

Steele, 6-foot-3, has led his team to back-to-back AA state championships. He plans to sign with Auburn in November.

Wright says the Tigers are getting a good one.

“He’s a shooter,” Wright said. “I think he’s about as efficient a scorer as I’ve ever coached, but his forte is that he is a dead-eye shooter. That’s strength.”

Steele had offers from Dayton, Western Kentucky, Missouri State, Marshall and Wright State. He expected an offer from Alabama and was being recruited by Georgia and numerous others.
