Gene Chizik is coming back to Auburn as the head football coach.

Sources close to Auburn's search told AuburnUndercover.com today that Chizik has agreed to terms. An announcement is expected as early as Sunday.

Chizik, Auburn’s defensive coordinator from 2002-2004, spent the last two seasons as head coach at Iowa State. He was 3-9 in 2006 and 2-10 in 2007, losing 10 straight after winning the season’s first two games.

Chizik won the Frank Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach after helping Auburn go 13-0 in 2004. He left to Texas, and helped the Longhorns with the national championship in 2005. He had a personal 27-game winning streak.

Chizik, 46, was one of eight candidates interviewed in the search for a replacement for Tommy Tuberville, who resigned on Dec. 3 after 10 seasons at Auburn.
