AUBURN - Stung by three losses in four games away from home, Auburn's basketball team returns to Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum tonight to play High Point.

Tiger coach Jeff Lebo said the Tigers learned something about themselves on the disappointing road trip.

"I think we learned a lot about our team," Lebo said. "We learned some areas where we have to get better. The kics are excited about playing and not have a long break after a loss."

The Tigers will break for Thanksgiving after tonight's game. They play Alabama A&M in Huntsville on Dec. 1.

After rallying to beat Niagara 69-65 at home in the opener, the Tigers lost 73-62 at Missouri State. In the Glenn Wilkes Classic in Daytona Beach, they lost 74-64 to Central Florida, beat IUPUI 80-65 and lost 60-58 to North Carolina State on a last-second putback.

Senior guard Tay Waller, one of the Southeastern Conference's top 3-point shooters, has missed the first five games because of a quadricep injury.

Point guard DeWayne Reed leads the team in scoring at 16.8 points per game. Sophomore Frankie Sullivan, who has scored 20 points or more in three consecutive games, averages 16.4 points per game.

Lebo will be matched against fellow North Carolina alumnus Scott Cherry, who joined the Tar Heels the season after Lebo left. Cherry is in his first season at High Point.

High Point (2-1) trailed by just there points at halftime at Wake Forest before falling 83-60.

Auburn women 62, Georgia Southern 56

The Auburn women’s basketball team (3-2) held off a second-half Georgia Southern to win 62-56 at Beard-Eaves on Tuesday night.

Senior Keke Carrier led the Tigers in scoring, hitting 8-of-10 for 17 points. Freshman Nicolle Thomas scored 14 points, freshman Blanche Alverson 13 and junior Alli Smalley 10.

Auburn led 36-21 at halftime, but Georgia Southern closed to within 4 points late in the game.

“Sometimes that happens,” Auburn coach Nell Fortner said. “We have a lot of freshmen out there. We are trying to give people opportunities to play, and sometimes it isn’t pretty. We are just going to keep at it and keep gaining experience and growing."
