Former Tiger wins his first PGA Tour Tournament

The PGA Tour has it’s seventh new champion for the 2026 season. Former Auburn Tiger, Jackson Koivun, used a 3rd round 64 to take the lead heading into Sunday. Then in the final round, he withstood a late charge from 4-time major champion, Scottie Scheffler.

Koivun began his final round at -20. He birdied three of the front nine pad his lead. A birdie on hole 12 brought his score to -24. Scheffler finished his round first. The world number one birdied the 18th to head into the clubhouse at -22. Koivun rose to the moment, with a birdie on the 16th and two pars on 17 and 18. It was a bogie free final round for Koivun to seal his first PGA Tournament championship.

Koivun turned pro, earlier this year, after helping the Auburn Tigers win the 2026 National Championship. He finished tied for 23rd at this year’s U.S. Open. Koivun is the only golfer to win the Haskins Award, Jack Nicklaus Award, and Ben Hogan Award on two separate occasions. This win vaults him to 70th in the FedEx Cup standings.

Koivun will look to win back-to-back tournaments as the PGA Tour heads to the Detroit Golf Club next weekend. This facility will host the 2026 Rocket Classic. Round one begins on July 30th with the tournament concluding on August 2nd.
