The media was once again allowed a short viewing period to watch practice and take notes of the observations that they saw. The Auburn Undercover team kept things broad, scanning all the position groups to check out what was going on.
For the second day, none of the players were in pads just like the first day, and the quarterbacks wore their orange non-contact uniforms. Wide receiver Christian Neptune and safety Sylvester Smith-Reed were also both in non-contact once again.
The quarterbacks started off in the indoor facility again working with the running backs. The quarterbacks work on short-distance passing, with the running backs fighting off blocks to get to the flats and also running short curl patterns. Byrum Brown displayed accuracy with his passes, firmly maintaining his spot in the first rotation with Jeremiah Cobb.
Omar Mabson II, who has been highly talked of by the coaching staff in recent days, was working in the second rotation again on Wedenesday with quarterback Tristan T’ia. His strong hands and sideline awareness were on display with a quick change of direction. Baylor transfer Bryson Washington was also way down in the rotation, still working his way behind Tae Meadows and Alvin Henderson as well.
The wide receivers worked on a quick start in their indoor drills to start the day, starting low off the block before taking on a short comeback route. Coaches threw yoga balls their way as a simulation of defenders quickly charging to tackle in the flats.
DeShawn Spencer continued to have his stock rise, showing off his firmness on receptions and ability to quickly avoid the contact.
The tight ends continued in sled drills again, working to break in the uncomfortable feeling of holding a block for a long period of time in order for the offense to move the ball.
The offensive line continued to focus on blocking technique in speed in groups of four, with two players going at a time. The rotation was the same as it was on Wednesday, with Jo Simmons, Cole Best, Cole Skinner and Stanton Ramil being the primary group.
The defensive line worked one-on-one drills that related to first contact and drive. Malik Autry brought along noticeable power and compliments from the staff. Autry is also currently wearing a tight club on his right hand, but no issues seem to have come of it, nor has the staff made anything public.
Jared Smith and Nate Johnson were also displaying solid ability with their hips, continuing their high performance during drills throughout the viewing period.
The secondary as a whole spent a lot of time working the shoulders and change of direction, emphasizing the backwards first step throughout the viewing period. The cornerbacks in particular worked on cutbacks towards the sidelines and opening up to defend deep. Champ Anthony was working with the corners today, showing a stout change of direction on his reps.
The linebackers worked with block shedding, with no immediate concerns showing. Bryce Deas was working with the primary group however.
