Quarterback Sam Sollie (Gadsden, Ala./Gadsden City), one of the top junior signal callers in the Southeast, publicly announced his verbal commitment Saturday morning in a ceremony at the pavilion behind his school’s field house.
He breaks down why he chose the Tigers.

“I love the new staff,” Sollie told Auburn Undercover. “I think coach (Alex) Golesh is a very genuine guy and he’s going to shoot you straight. He’ll tell you what you need to work on and that’s something that I like because nobody is perfect. Just getting feedback and seeing what I can do better is a big plus for me. I love the facilities. I love the campus. I love the fan base. I love everything about Auburn. They offered me in the spring (in April) and we just started building the relationship right away.”
Sollie’s pledge marks the first verbal commit in the 2028 class for Auburn.
The national quarterback dominoes in the 2028 class had all of the Top 25 programs snagging up their guy at the most important position in sports on an accelerated timeline.
“It’s not like o-lineman or receiver where you need 4-5 a year,” Sollie said. “With QB you need one. Unless you’re Alabama you need two. Seeing all these other schools taking their QBs. I wanted to go ahead and get my spot before it’s too late and another quarterback comes in and gets it.”
Sollie, who holds 15 offers, chose the Tigers over Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Alabama.
The quarterback based his choice on several key elements.
“Coaching staff for sure. That’s a big one,” Sollie said. “When football is not there, where do I want to go to college? Cause football is not going to be there forever. It’s where I want to go to college, too.”
Both of his parents attended Auburn. One of his best buddies, 2027 offensive lineman Rance Brown (Brentwood, Tenn./Academy), who used to live in Gadsden, is also committed to Auburn.
As a sophomore, Sollie connected on 94-of-175 passes (a 53.7 completion percentage) for 1,318 yards with 13 touchdowns with only one interception.
He also rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown posting a 7-2 record as a starter.
“For individual and team goals just get better every week,” Sollie said. “Get better each week and see what we can do to win the next game. Just be me and play my game and do whatever it takes to get the win.”
