The Auburn Tigers landed the late commitment of a transfer on Thursday just a few months before the 2026-2027 college basketball season.
Senior guard Kolby King has committed to the Tigers after spending last season at Utah State, where he played under then head coach Jerrod Calhoun, who recently became the head coach at Cincinnati.
In his 2025-2026 campaign, King played in 36 games for the Aggies, but did not start in any of them. He scored 7.5 points per game during the year to go with 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He played an average of 19.2 minutes per game in which he shot 47.7 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from 3-point land.
This will be the fifth school for King in five seasons. King was at St. John’s in the 2022-2023 season, Tulane in the 2023-2024 season and Butler in the 2024-2025 season prior to arriving at Utah State. His only major starting experience came at Tulane, where he started 23 of 31 games.
The Aggies went 29-7 in King’s lone season, winning the Mountain West Conference title and a run to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament, where they eventually fell to the Arizona Wildcats.
King joins a guard room at Auburn that is complete with Tahaad Pettiford, Kevin Overton, Caleb Williams, George Kimble III, Blake Muschalek and Simon Walker, who are the ones that are expected to see the floor in rotation. Kimble is the only one of that group who transferred over the offseason.
King was one of a number of plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed in July after the announcement of the five-year eligibility rule from the NCAA.
Auburn recently returned from an overseas trip to Greece, where it split two games with Serbian professional team KK Mega Superbet. Its next slated game is an exhibition contest against the Florida State Seminoles on Wednesday, Oct. 14 in the Ballin in Boutwell event in Birmingham.
