He sat out of Auburn’s Friday scrimmage and did not participate in practice Tuesday, as he’s dealing with a minor lower body injury. However, Echols isn’t concerned with missing time.

“It should be day-to-day, just working to get back each and every day,” Echols said. “I mean, things happen, you just got to keep going. Everything’s going to get better. You can't ever stay too down on something that happens. You always have to look to that next step, getting better each and every day.”

Echols transferred to Auburn this offseason from South Florida, where in two seasons with the Bulls, he caught 10 passes for 168 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Now with Auburn, Echols is one of several newcomers in the Tigers’ tight end room.

“We have a very unique group,” Echols said. “We have all different types of skill sets. We all can do a little bit of everything. Some more than others, some differently, like body type. It’s gonna be real fun, what this group can do.”

The group is coached by new tight ends coach Larry Scott, who comes to Auburn after spending the last six years as the Howard head coach.

“I love Coach Larry,” Echols said. “He gets on you, he’s pushing you to be the best version of yourself every day. He’s just getting us better each and every day technique wise. Becoming a man off the field, so it’s been great to work with him.”

Auburn begins its 2026 campaign against Baylor on Sept. 5 from Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
