Healthy again, Stanton Ramil settling in as Auburn's first-team right tackle
“Really, really good. Yeah, my knees feel really good.”
That is how junior transfer offensive tackle Stanton Ramil is feeling after missing the spring to injury. After Tuesday’s practice, Ramil said he appreciates the coaches making sure he was healthy before reinserting him into the lineup. Ramil told Auburn Undercover about how being on a “pitch count” during preseason camp helped him.
“Every rep counts, especially when you know, you're a bit limited at the start. So every rep you get, you can't really take for granted. You have to, it's full blown effort.”
Ramil has been taking the bulk of the reps with the ones at right tackle. His guard partner is USF transfer Cole Skinner. Ramil talked about how Skinner and center Cole Best’s presence was important in learning the offense.
“So it's like playing next to them, they're elite with their communication and it's just allowing us to be like receptive, to be open to it so that we can execute at a high level.”
Ramil feels he is much sharper from a mental standpoint as the opener approaches next Saturday. Ramil told Auburn Undercover he spent a lot of his recovery time in the meeting and film rooms making sure there were no mental flaws in his game.
The former Thompson High School product also said he’s excited to be able to continue his college career in the same state where he played high school football, after playing three years at Michigan State.
“Just being able to have the opportunity to come back here, you know, know so many people down here and it's just a blessing to be around them, to have their support and all that stuff. So it's really been such a blessing.”
Ramil will play his first game in front of a home Auburn crowd at Jordan-Hare Stadium on September 12th against Southern Miss. Before then, he and his fellow Tigers travel to Atlanta to take on the Baylor Bears on September 5th for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff in the Aflac Kickoff Game.
