The Tigers’ attention is all on the Baylor Bears and what they will do to be successful on Sept. 5 in Atlanta when the two teams take the field in the Aflac Kickoff Game.
Here are some of the notable quotes that Golesh had during his portion of the presser.
On being excited for the opener:
“We’re excited to be a part of the Aflac Kickoff Game on Saturday. I’m excited to head to Atlanta on Friday and we’ve got a long week of work ahead of us to get to where we’ve got to go and to where we’re ready to rock and roll.”
On it being the first time the program is going through this together:
“(I’m) just excited to get game one. As you go into year one and get rolling, I think for me, just as exciting as anything to see us go perform and spend so much time talking and working through so many different things that you just want to go and play the very best you can and then continue to grow and learn from that.”
On the challenge of DJ Lagway:
“A fully healthy version of DJ Lagway, I would imagine, is the best version of him and presents a ton of challenges, one with what he can do with his arm, but two, certainly what he can do with his legs. In all honesty, if this is the best version of him, is one of the best quarterbacks in the entire country.”
On the challenges of what the Baylor defense brings:
“You’re preparing for a lot of different things. You’re watching a lot of different film and trying to get a really good feel. You’re kind of preparing for the unknown, and that’s always week one, but certainly when you get a new staff. They do return four starters defensively, bring over four guys from Kansas State and then an influx on both sides of the ball of talent in terms of through the portal.”
On the benefits of the mock game week:
“I thought they responded fairly well. I think for us, just getting in this routine and I’m so process oriented and so hammering home what authentically high-end routine should look like, and we needed last week and there was some really, really solid and then there was a lot we coach off of. I think the balance of teaching, introducing an opponent and then on top of it, us going through our process of just what does it look like week in, week out? It was really, really big.”
On the progress of the offensive line:
“We made it really hard a week ago. We’re continuing to make it really hard. I think more than anything for that group, it’s still why we go a lot of good on good, a lot of ones versus twos and twos versus ones, good on good to make sure that that group is ready. That’s for as much as anybody, the whole line room to be able to get really good pass rush, to be able to get our best players against them… I feel like the progress has been really, really good.”
