The Auburn Tigers are in the midst of their final practices of the preseason as the 2026 season opener against the Baylor Bears inches ever so closer to the present day.

With Sept. 5 standing ahead on Saturday, the Tigers are seeking to make a statement in the first game of Alex Golesh’s time as head coach of the program, and also trying to sweep the Bears in this home-and-home.
Wednesday’s edition of the Impacting Auburn series features a player that hopes to play a big part in that, as he comes along with Auburn Undercover beginning to wrap up the list of potential difference makers.
As a disclaimer, the poll was tabulated by rankings sent in from four people on the Auburn Undercover staff—Tyler Raley, Ryan Bartow, Caleb Jones and Jay Douglas. The rankings each person sent in were averaged, with the lowest score going at the top of the list.
Senior leader Jeremiah Cobb, while not very vocal, is loud with his actions. The running back is not only looking to eclipse 1,000 yards in 2026, but also looking to stand out as one of the the top backs in the SEC.

Performance in 2025:
Cobb’s outing in 2025 became better and better as the season went along, and the then junior showed flashes of why he was highly touted coming out of Montgomery Catholic in High School.
Cobb played in all 12 games for Auburn as a junior, starting in 11 of those games in the process. Over the course of that time, he rushed 175 times for 969 yards, but for only five touchdowns. In addition, he was utilized a little in the air attack, catching 11 passes for 83 yards.
The running back put up five 100-yard performances throughout the last campaign, three of which came in SEC play. His most yards came in a road win against Arkansas, when he carried the ball 28 times for 153 yards. The five times surpassing the century mark were the most by a Tigers running back since 2021.
Four of Cobb’s five touchdowns came within the first three games of the season, with one coming against Baylor, two against Ball State and the other one against South Alabama.
His efforts earned him Third Team All-SEC honors and placed him sixth in the league in rushing yards.
Preseason camp intel:
While it was Cobb’s backfield for the most part in 2025, it is all his as a senior, and there are high expectations for where he can go as a rusher.
Over the course of preseason camp, one thing that has stuck out to Golesh is Cobb’s ability to become more physical in his reps, which is something the head coach is striving to get out of the whole team as he gets them to work towards being violent on the football field.
Sources around the program have shared the sentiment, and even shared that Cobb performed well in the closed scrimmages that the team held during preseason camp.
Cobb has gotten all of his reps with the first team players, being the definite primary back for Auburn in 2026.
One of the biggest things though for Cobb has been elevating his role as a leader, an aspect of his game that Golesh is attempting to get him more vocal with.
Golesh has said that he is looking to get Cobb to talk more, and during his press conference on Monday, Cobb was included in a list of players that the head coach said was beginning to come out of their shell in some ways.
It is something the running back has worked on from the first day of preseason camp this season, but he does not hesitate to credit his fellow running backs for helping him in that regard.
“As a leader, I’ve definitely talked more amongst my guys in the running back room,” Cobb said. “They make it easy for me, so I feel better about that.”
The senior will seek to showcase his work in a big way, especially on Saturday when he takes the field as a starter for the Tigers.
