Auburn Undercover is on site in Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the Aflac Kickoff Game between Auburn and Baylor.
This will serve as a live update thread throughout the game, so stay tuned here for all the intel from Atlanta.
GAME NOTES:
First quarter
- Baylor has won the toss and deferred to the second half. Auburn will be driving towards its own side.
- Auburn goes five plays and punts on first drive of the game
- Lagway scrambles to the right on third down and on a hurdle gets the ball knocked out by Eric Winters, Kaleb Harris recovers on the Auburn sideline.
- Auburn gets on the board first with a 43-yard yard field goal. Tigers lead 3-0 with 8:13 in the first.
- Baylor turns the ball over once again on its second drive of the game, with Auburn EDGE Jared Smith picking the ball off on the left side of the line of scrimmage.
- Auburn goes three and out on the ensuing drive following the interception, driven by a 7-yard sack from Jordan Mack of Baylor.
- Baylor driving as we end the first quarter of play. Auburn is up 3-0, with the Bears having it at the Tigers 25 to start the next quarter.
Second quarter
- Baylor’s Rhett Armstrong has a 42-yard field goes wide right, deflected by Dallas Walker IV
- Auburn goes three and out on the ensuing possession and punts
- Baylor punts on next possession and pins Auburn on the 1-yard line. Punt was forced as a result of a combined TFL from Jared Smith and AnQuon Fegans.
- Auburn deep pass from Brown intercepted by Baylor at the 2-yard line by Reggie Bush II
- Baylor goes three and out and punts out of its own end zone.
- Auburn touchdown by Jeremiah Cobb with a 15-yard run through the right side.
- Baylor responds with a touchdown to make it 10-7 Auburn, getting a pass from Lagway to Louis Brown IV for 14 yards.
- Auburn has a pass from Brown intercepted to end the first half, score at 10-7 with the Tigers in the lead.
Third quarter
- Baylor goes three and out to open the second half.
- Auburn gets to the Bears 25 but stalls, Alex McPherson misses a 43-yard field goal wide left and the score stays the same.
- Baylor drives deep in Auburn territory and goes for it on fourth down, and the Tigers get the stop with Rayshawn Pleasant sticking to Jadon Porter and forcing an incomplete pass. Auburn takes over at its own 17-yard line.
- Auburn gets forced into a long-distance situation near midfield and has to punt. Hudson Kaak gets the Bears pinned at the 15-yard line.
- Baylor goes three and out thanks to Elijah Melendez forcing an incomplete pass over the middle on third down deep in Bears territory.
- Auburn gets by the Baylor 40-yard line, tries a fake punt and Mabson gets stuffed, turnover on downs.
Fourth quarter
- Baylor gets stopped on fourth-and-4 with a tipped pass from Bryce Deas, but on the first play of the ensuing possession for Auburn, Brown’s pass gets intercepted.
- Baylor ties it with a 22-yard field goal from Armstrong on the left hash, making it 10-10 with 7:12 left.
- Auburn touchdown on an 11-yard quarterback keeper from Byrum Brown around left end. Tigers up 17-10 with 3:21 left.
Baylor- touchdown pass from DJ Lagway to Gavin Freeman. 9 seconds to go. Baylor will go for two.
Auburn- Eric Winters makes the tackle short of the goal line. Auburn leads 17-16 with 9 seconds to play
