“I feel like I played pretty smooth.”
This is how senior cornerback Rayshawn Pleasant rated his Saturday performance following Tuesday morning’s practice. He was credited with two pass breakups. Baylor found success against Auburn hitting numerous slant patterns. Pleasant told the media what they are looking to clean up heading into this weekend.
“Knowing that he (Durkin) called this call, knowing that we can't get beat in this leverage and knowing that's the weakness of defense, so knowing we have to protect that.”
Pleasant is one of four seniors in the secondary. He told the media how he has stepped up to morph himself into a leader.
“I just put a chip on my shoulder each and every day, showing these boys how I work and how I put each and every day. And it just showed in the game that I just pray every day that these boys come along and see, it's all about your process and what you're doing on a daily basis.”
One guy still getting used to the defense is converted wide receiver Bryce Cain. Pleasant talked about the benefits to having Cain as a member of the secondary.
“He's a very humble guy. He always have a positive mindset no matter the circumstances. And he deserves everything that came to him and everything else that's coming for him.”
Pleasant also gave the media some insight on some of the younger guys we could see on the field as the season progresses, “Shamar Arnoux, he's gonna be a guy that come along. It's just him, gotta continue to build reps in practice, continue to stack days. And y'all gonna see him in game gonna be crazy. He just gotta continue to build that trust from the coaches and continue to come here and get better each and every day.”
Auburn opens the 2026 home schedule Saturday against Southern Miss. Pleasant told the media what it’s going to be like playing in front of the Auburn family once again.
“That stadium, every time you go in Jordan-Hare, it's a sense of pride that you gotta be in and be able to play with. So I'm looking forward to giving them a show and us being at our best for them.”
The Tigers and Golden Eagles will kick things off at 6:45.
