Live updates: Alex Golesh, coordinators speaks to media ahead of Vanderbilt

Auburn Head Coach is set to speak alongside his coordinators in his weekly press conference following Saturday’s loss to Florida.

Auburn Undercover is in attendance and will provide updates as they are given, with the coaches reflecting on the loss and looking ahead to Vanderbilt.

Alex Golesh

- Golesh said it was about as poor of a start against Florida as anybody could have imagined.

- Not executing offensively early, missed tackles and misalignments were a big part of Saturday’s loss.

- Golesh touched on the fact that Vandebilt plays with tempo and that Jared Curtis has been impressive early for his age.

- The play calling has always been a group effort according to Golesh when asked about what the play calling was like on Saturday.

- Golesh said from a focus standpoint, his defense was off. 

- Golesh said the missed tackles are being addressed through the urgency in practice and practicing alignment and assignments. He continued by saying over 90 percent of the missed tackles were simply by guys getting to spots too late.

- Golesh was surprised at how emotional the team was, saying the team was amped to the point that the team never truly got settled, especially on defense.

- The schedule past Vanderbilt has nothing to do with the Vanderbilt game on Saturday according to Golesh in terms of if Saturday is a must-win.

Joel Gordon

- The way that Vanderbilt attacks is different than Florida, but Gordon says week to week they are trying to understand what the defensive unit is presenting and learn it while getting last week’s mistakes fixed.

- The great thing about Byrum Brown is he is making progressions in his knowledge of his time in the pocket according to Gordon. He still has to make strides in that area though.

- The running game need to be better, but things have also not been balanced at the same time.

- Gordon said Wilson Zierer was inconsistent, which is expected due to his youth.

DJ Durkin

- Durkin felt the defense was too emotional and never settled in during the night.

- Durkin said Florida did a good job with tempo and keeping the defense confused. Auburn has to do a better job of execution.
