Auburn ended its five-game SEC home losing streak with a 21-15 victory over Vanderbilt.
While there’s plenty to be cleaned up, a win is a win. Head coach Alex Golesh is grateful to have the win. And so are several Auburn players.
Here’s what some of the Auburn players had to say following the win.
Quarterback Byrum Brown on the win:
“You put in a lot of hard work and to see it come to fruition was really good. Still got a lot of things to clean up, but glad we got this one.”
Brown on finishing the game with a long drive:
“We practice for situations such as those. So to be able to go out there and execute was really huge for the team to finish it off like that.”
Safety Sylvester Smith-Reed on the win:
"It was big. Like I said earlier this week, you know, defense, we had a decision to either respond or lay down. Responding was something I've seen throughout, not only just the defense, but the entire team. And we just showed up today with a good mentality, a mentality to get things done."
Defensive lineman Cody Sigler on his first SEC win:
“I loved every second of it. Shout out to the fans for showing up. It's a dream come true.”
Offensive lineman Stanton Ramil on ending the game with a prolonged, run-heavy drive:
“Man, I don't know if there's a better feeling than forcing the ball down the throat of the defense and just seeing them lose hope as we get next first down, next first down, next first down. It's a great feeling to do it with the guys that you've been working hard with all year, so we love an ending like that.”
Offensive lineman Kenneth McManus IV on the final drive:
“Definitely, just use the momentum to push and strain through the fourth quarter, just finish. We knew the game was on our back at that point, so we had to go finish.”
Running back Jeremiah Cobb on winning an SEC game:
“It was awesome. I walked off the field. I was like wow. This is what I want to feel every time I walk off this field. It was awesome to finally get that and I’m proud of this team for helping us get there.”
Cade Carlson on scoring the touchdown on the blocked punt:
“Omar (Mabson) came through, he made the play. All credit to him, man. He put the ball in the right spot and I just happened to be there. But such a surreal moment being able to score in that stadium, man. You just dream of things like that growing up playing football.”
