SNELLVILLE, Ga. - Auburn has high success when it takes dual-threat QBs out of the state of Georgia.
Its best two in recent memory—Cam Newton and Nick Marshall—both had that skill set and hailed from the Peach State.
The Tigers got one committed in Gary Chatman, who’s enrolling in January.

“I love the tradition,” Chatman told Auburn Undercover recently at his high school. “I’m looking forward to following the tradition and just doing what they did and even better.”
Chatman verbally committed to Auburn in early May. He chose the Tigers for three reasons.
“Coaches, community (and) tradition,” Chatman said.
He’s firm with his pledge and said he doesn’t hear or communicate with any other programs. Chatman is a ring leader for Auburn’s decorated 2027 recruiting class.
“Elite group of guys,” Chatman said. “My guy (running back Myson Johnson-Cook). My guy Brylan (Oduor) at receiver. Those two. Deshawn Hall (at receiver). On defense, we got Chance Gilbert. The list goes on and on.”
Chatman said he’s staying in the ear of his teammate, Gamecocks running back commit Brayden Tyson (6-1, 230), in case there’s a coaching change at South Carolina.
“I’m pretty sure he’s locked in but I’d like to add him to (our) recruiting class,” Chatman said.
Chatman visited Auburn for its first two home games this season.
“I expect (Auburn) to win,” Chatman said. “Great experience (on the visits). I enjoyed it. The fans. I was happy to be part of it.”
The 6-foot-0, 203-pounder bench presses 270 pounds, runs a 4.50-second 40-yard dash and holds a 3.4 GPA.
“He’s a fantastic young man,” Brookwood coach Chad Nighbert said. “He’s done nothing but get more mature as he’s come on from his freshman year until now. He’s just matured to exactly what you want your leaders to do. He’s great on the field obviously, but he’s also great in the classroom (and) in the streets. Everywhere you meet him he’s going to have a smile on his face and try to get the people around him better.”
As a junior, Chatman hit on 86-of-144 passes for 1,494 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed 35 times for 418 yards, an 11.9 yards per carry average, with five touchdowns.
As a senior, through six games, Chatman has connected on 62-of-89 passes for 1,016 yards with 12 touchdowns and two interceptions.
He’s also rushed 27 times for 262 yards, a 9.7 yards per carry average, with four touchdowns.
Brookwood (6-0) hosts Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.) Friday.
The goals the rest of the way are very high.
“Just to be legendary,” Chatman said. “To be who we say we are. Living up to expectations.”
