COLUMBUS, Ga. - Shaw High School doesn’t get much college recruiting traffic. That may change soon for Johnny Garner’s upstart program.

They have two junior defensive prospects that are garnering college interest.

Linebacker Bryson Denson, who also plays safety and quarterback, holds an offer from Georgia State.

As a junior, Denson has 21 tackles, six tackles for loss and a sack.
As a sophomore, he recorded 56 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two interceptions and a sack.
Denson also averaged seven points and 9.2 rebounds in basketball last winter.

“He’s just scratching the surface on what he can be,” Garner recently told Auburn Undercover at his high school. “He’s an elite athlete. Plays basketball dunking all over the place. He placed in state in the shot put in track as well. To have his athleticism he can drop in coverage and he’s physical in the run game. His IQ is starting to grow now. He’s kind of a raw deal.”

The 6-foot-0, 200-pounder bench presses 250 pounds, runs a 4.7-second 40-yard dash and holds a 3.26 GPA. His dad went to Auburn.

“It’s a good school,” Denson said. “Most definitely I’d like to visit there.”

Defensive end Markevius Grier (6-3, 220) bench presses 275 pounds, squats 415 pounds, power cleans 270 pounds and holds a 2.3 GPA.

As a junior, Grier has nine tackles, three tackles for loss, three sacks and nine hurries.

He has big-time growth potential as his dad is 6-foot-9.
“He doesn’t really know what he has,” Garner said. “We expect him to grow even some more. He’s a strong kid, a big oak tree. He can’t be moved on the line scrimmage. He has that length. He has a strong strike. He can get separation on the line. He’s a nightmare for quarterbacks. We are excited about him as well.”

Both 2028 prospects camped at Georgia State and Troy.

They hope to camp at Auburn next summer.

Shaw (3-3) plays at Cario Friday.

“We want to come out on top and make it as fun as we can,” Denson said. “We want to give our best all over the field.”
