Auburn opponent review: How the Tigers' remaining schedule fared in Week 6
Auburn was on a bye week this weekend, but there was still plenty of action across the SEC.
Its two biggest rivals faced off in primetime, with an undisciplined penalty costing one of them a chance at victory. Meanwhile, a couple of other future SEC opponents stumbled and dropped another one. Here’s how the Tigers’ remaining schedule fared in their Week 6 games.
Georgia
Result: Georgia defeated Alabama 20-17.
Georgia won on the road against Alabama for the first time since 2007 and is the last unbeaten in the SEC. With the win and a loss by Texas, Georgia jumped to the No. 1 spot in the polls ahead of its matchup with Auburn.
Dwight Phillips Jr. rushed for a season-best 120 yards, while Gunner Stockton threw for 249 yards, a touchdown and added a rushing touchdown in the win over the Crimson Tide.
Next up: Georgia (6-0) hosts Auburn (3-2)
LSU
Result: LSU lost 35-34 to Kentucky.
Six lead changes and a late field goal by Kentucky sent this game to overtime, where LSU scored in just two plays. Kentucky then answered with a touchdown of its own and head coach Will Stein elected to go for two and the win — for the second week in a row. And once again, Kentucky converted to win the game.
Sam Leavitt threw for 275 yards, two touchdowns and had one pass intercepted in the loss. It dropped LSU to No. 22 in the latest AP Poll.
Next up: LSU (4-2) hosts Mississippi State (4-1)
Ole Miss
Result: Ole Miss defeated Vanderbilt 52-17.
Ole Miss did not stumble at all on the road against Vanderbilt, jumping out to a 42-3 lead by halftime. Trinidad Chambliss tossed three touchdown passes, while Kewan Lacy and true freshman Shekai Mills-Knight added rushing touchdowns.
Next up: Ole Miss (4-1) hosts Missouri (5-1)
Arkansas
Result: Arkansas lost 24-17 to Tennessee.
Arkansas kept it close with Tennessee, but ultimately fell short to the Volunteers at home. KJ Jackson went 15-for-27 for 155 yards and a touchdown in the contest.
Meanwhile, the Razorbacks’ defense intercepted Tennessee quarterback George MacIntyre twice and forced a fumble. The Arkansas offense only turned the three turnovers into one touchdown.
Next up: Arkansas (2-4) travels to Vanderbilt (3-3)
Mississippi State
Result: Mississippi State was on a bye week.
Next up: Mississippi State (4-1) travels to LSU (4-2)
Samford
Result: Samford lost 19-3 to Chattanooga.
Samford’s offense manifested just 137 yards of total offense in the loss. Meanwhile, Chattanooga did its damage on the ground, rushing for 200 yards and passing for only 55 yards.
Next up: Samford (1-5) hosts Mercer (5-2)
Alabama
Result: Alabama lost 20-17 to Georgia.
