Gabe Gross is stepping away from Auburn's baseball coaching staff but will remain with the athletics department in a new role.
Auburn announced Monday that Gross has been named special assistant for athletics engagement after spending the last nine seasons on Butch Thompson's staff.
In his new position, Gross will assist with fundraising and fan engagement efforts while also serving as an analyst on Auburn baseball radio and television broadcasts.
Gross said the decision came after months of discussion with his family as the demands of college athletics continued to evolve. The new role will allow him to remain at Auburn while spending more time with his wife and children.
Gross leaves the dugout after helping Auburn enjoy one of the most successful stretches in program history. During his nine seasons on Thompson's staff, the Tigers made six NCAA Tournament appearances, advanced to five Super Regionals and reached the College World Series twice.
A former Auburn All-American, Gross played for the Tigers from 1999-2001 before being selected in the first round of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft. He spent seven seasons in the major leagues before returning to his alma mater as a coach in 2018.
Although his day-to-day responsibilities are changing, Gross will remain a familiar face around Auburn Athletics as he begins the next chapter of his career.
