Auburn baseball has filled its vacant assistant coaching position with one of the top hitting coaches in the country.
Head coach Butch Thompson announced Tuesday the hiring of Nick Ammirati as an assistant coach. Ammirati arrives on the Plains after spending the last two seasons at Georgia, where he served as the Bulldogs' hitting coach and helped coordinate transfer portal recruiting. He replaces Gabe Gross, who recently transitioned into a new role within Auburn Athletics.
Georgia enjoyed one of the nation's most productive offenses under Ammirati. The Bulldogs finished the 2026 season with a 53-14 record, captured both the SEC regular-season and tournament championships, advanced to the College World Series and led the NCAA with a school-record 179 home runs. Georgia also set program records for runs scored, RBI and total bases.
Before joining Georgia, Ammirati spent three seasons at Kentucky, where he helped the Wildcats reach the College World Series in 2024. He also previously coached at Southern Miss, Hinds Community College and Northwestern State.
A former player at Mississippi State, Ammirati was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 46th round of the 2009 MLB Draft before later playing professionally in the Seattle Mariners organization.
Ammirati joins a coaching staff that includes Thompson, associate head coach Karl Nonemaker and pitching coach Everett Teaford as Auburn looks to build on another postseason appearance in 2026.
