Quotes of Note: Alex Golesh gets emotional after Auburn stuns No. 1 Georgia
The Auburn Tigers pulled off one of the stunners of the season in Athens, Georgia on Saturday, defeated the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs 27-24 thanks to a game-winning field goal from Alex McPherson.
It was the first win for the team over Georgia since 2017, and the first time winning in Athens since 2005, marking a historic night for a team that needed a win in the middle of a tough October stretch.
Auburn Head Coach Alex Golesh spoke to the media after the game. Here are some of his most notable quotes.

On composure after going down 14 early:
“We went down 14-nothing, and then the ability to go answer and get back in it. That end of the first half into the beginning of the second half, the ability for us to go score on that first drive. And really then the story of the game is three takeaways defensively, none bigger than the one at the very end there, and then did not turn it over offensively. We've continued to talk about that being as big of a tell to winning, as big of a key to winning. I thought the composure from our guys was really big.”
On Alex McPherson:
“Man, couldn't have happened to a better human being. But that's how he practices. That's how he prepares. That's how he lives his life. He's a special human being.”
On what it means to defeat Georgia:
“I just want to get this program, and I think we all want to get this program back to where you expect to come in and win these games. That's why we came here. That's why we chose Auburn. That's why these guys chose Auburn not to just wear an AU on their helmet, but to stand on the shoulders of guys that texted me this week. Takeo this morning, J Cam on Tuesday. Ronnie, Bo Jackson. They each gave their own little bit of what it means to play in this game. But we wake up in the morning and we gotta get ready for LSU, so that's why I don't want to make it bigger or smaller than what it is. But we're gonna build it to where hopefully the next generation expects to win that game.”
On sharing an emotional moment with his son after the game:
“After he got his a** ripped and had to go to bed, he just said 'Can I come down on the field after we win?' That's pretty cool to share that with him... I don't mean to get emotional about it. I'm happy for everybody involved. And again, it's not about me, and it never will be, but pretty cool when a 12-year-old believes, you know what I mean?"
On not holding onto this win too long:
“Now the key is, and I said this last week, good win, bad loss, they're all the same because on Sunday, you have to reset and turn the page, or it'll carry over into the next one. Whatever the emotions are, whatever happened, it'll carry on to the next one. You have to reset. In this league, it'll smash you in the face if you don't reset. So that was the emotions after that.”
