Auburn's 27-24 victory over No. 1 Georgia produced more than a signature win for first-year coach Alex Golesh. It also brought a collection of individual and team honors announced Monday.
Quarterback Byrum Brown was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while kicker Alex McPherson earned SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Golesh received two national coaching awards following the Tigers' victory in Athens.
Brown accounted for 265 yards of offense and two touchdowns against the Bulldogs. He rushed for 115 yards and a score on 26 carries while completing 15 of 26 passes for 150 yards and another touchdown. He also finished without a turnover.
The performance earned Brown a spot among the Davey O'Brien Foundation's Great 8 quarterbacks for Week 7.
McPherson delivered the decisive points, connecting on a 34-yard field goal as time expired to give Auburn the three-point victory. He also made a 49-yard attempt late in the first half and now has 46 career field goals and 244 points, both ranking among Auburn's top 10 all-time totals.
Golesh was selected as both the Bear Bryant National Coach of the Week and the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week. Auburn also received the Pop-Tarts Bowl Crazy Good Team of the Week award.
The Tigers erased an early 14-point deficit against Georgia, scoring 24 unanswered points before the Bulldogs rallied to tie the game. Auburn's defense forced three turnovers, including a fumble recovery in the final minute that helped set up McPherson's winning kick.
Brown and McPherson join safety Eric Winters as Auburn's SEC weekly award recipients this season. Winters was recognized for his performance in the Tigers' season-opening victory over Baylor.
Auburn (4-2, 2-2 SEC) returns to Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday to face No. 18 LSU (5-2, 2-2). Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on ABC.
