As Auburn walked off the field, victorious against Georgia for the first time since 2017, quarterback Byrum Brown had just played one of his best games of the season.

Offensive Coordinator Joel Gordon spoke about how Brown was able to turn in his best performance of the year against the number one team in the country, long known for playing suffocating defense.

“His confidence was there early,” Gordon said. “He was able to feed off of his own play. He was able to feed off the run game. He was able to feed off guys making plays in the pass game. That’s contagious and it’s momentum.”

Brown’s 26 carries were a season high, and he also rushed for a season high 115 yards.

Head Coach Alex Golesh said nothing changed in the offensive game plan that resulted in this higher volume of carries. He ultimately felt that running Brown gave them the best chance at creating an advantage against Georgia.

“That’s a tough cat,” Golesh said. “He (Brown) knows part of what we do offensively, he’s got to be able and go effectively change the game with his legs.”

Another position group that showed vast improvement on Saturday was the offensive line. The front paved the way for the Tigers to rush for 192 yards and more than 200 yards, excluding sacks on called pass plays.

Although Brown was sacked five times, that is the third-lowest total this year, against a high pressure defense on the road. Brown had a clean pocket most of the day. Gordon broke down the line’s performance.

“The execution was way more consistent then what it had been,” Gordon said. “There were some really good jobs in the protection. You’re playing against a really good team, that’s what it’s going to take to have a chance to win a game like that.”

For the first time in three weeks, Auburn returns to the friendly confines of Jordan-Hare Stadium to face an old rival in the LSU Tigers.

Golesh said there’s an added level of excitement having won a big road game and coming back home.

“I can’t tell you how geeked our guys are to get right back out on the field,” Golesh said. “Fortunate to play at home. We are going to need it to be juicy, rockin as it always is. We need a huge week of prep. Getting right back to fundamentals. Making sure we are schematically right. Go and compete at a high high level Saturday.”
