The Auburn Tigers will face their third test of the season this Saturday. SEC play begins when the Florida Gators visit Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Head Coach Alex Golesh feels Florida’s run game could present a challenge to the Tigers’ defense. Senior defensive lineman Cody Sigler told Auburn Undercover, on Tuesday, what Florida’s top running back, Jadan Baugh, brings to the table.
“He's a tough runner, a very good runner,” Sigler said. “Much respect to them and their O-line. O-line looks really good. Best we'll play probably this year or up there. No, but he's a handful. We're gonna have to, we got a lot of stuff we gotta do to stop him.”
Sigler added that Baugh, who is averaging an eye-popping 10.6 yards per carry after two games, could well be the best running back Auburn will face this year.
He spoke about the challenge Baugh presents and why he feels his defense will rise to that challenge.
“The mindset for that is just gotta go out there and give it all you got, but this is why you play football,” Sigler said. “You're gonna go against the best people. He's gonna be, he's gonna play football for a long time. We're gonna try our best to stop him.”
Saturday’s game will be Auburn’s second consecutive game at a sold out Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Sigler says playing in Atlanta week one felt like a home game but nothing compared to this past Saturday when the Tigers took the field against Southern Miss.
“Being on the field is just totally different, the atmosphere,” Sigler said. “Being on the field, you could feel the ground shaking, and they felt it too. They had like three false starts in the first drive, so that was cool. You see that on TV growing up as a kid, and you're like, yeah, that's what you live for, I think.”
He hopes the fans will have a similar effect on the visiting Gators on Saturday.
“They're gonna play a huge part, just like we're gonna play our part,” Sigler said. “We just gotta go out there and execute, ‘cause our fans are behind us no matter what.”
Sigler registered four tackles against Southern Miss. One of his quarterback pressures resulted in a safety for the Tigers. Sigler and the defensive line will look to wreak more havoc during Saturday’s game.
