Terry Bowden calls Auburn’s 27-24 upset of No. 1 Georgia the defining “statement game” of the Alex Golesh era.
Bowden joins Ronnie Sanders to explain how Auburn overcame a 14-0 deficit, outplayed Georgia physically and ended a nine-game losing streak in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. The Tigers won the turnover battle 3-0, outrushed Georgia 192-113 and received a career-defining performance from quarterback Byrum Brown.
Bowden examines the coaching decisions that changed the game, including Auburn’s halfback pass, designed quarterback runs and defensive adjustments after Georgia’s fast start. He also explains why the victory should strengthen the players’ belief in Golesh and prove that Auburn can compete with anyone when it plays disciplined football.
The conversation also addresses Auburn’s decision to dismiss All-SEC linebacker Xavier Atkins. Bowden discusses the difficulty of removing a talented player, why a coach must remain consistent with his standards and how Elijah Melendez helped the defense respond against Georgia.
