The Auburn Tigers are swallowing a tough pill after a 38-17 loss to the LSU Tigers in Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday, a game that saw nothing truly go right for Alex Golesh’s squad throughout the game.

LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt passed for more yards on the day than Auburn had total yards. Meanwhile Auburn only put up 67 rushing yards on the day, its lowest output of the season in that regard.

Golesh spoke to the media following the loss in Jordan-Hare Stadium, touching on the shortcomings of the team and detailing what went wrong in the Tiger Bowl.

Here were some of his most notable quotes.

On the wholistic outlook of the game:

“We did not play anywhere near winning football today in every imaginable way… I told them they’ve got tonight to feel some sort of way about it, to feel sorry for themselves. Then tomorrow morning it’s a reset, no different than a good win. A tough loss the response has to be the same. We’ve had the highs of high so far. That would be the low of lows.”

On if anything that got “masked” against Georgia showed up in this game:

“I don't know if that's it specifically. I was certainly on high alert with what this defense looks like. The team speed defensively, the edges. Truthfully, what I said on Monday was what I was concerned about. I don't know it's truly masking things.”

On the defense’s trouble against the short pass game:

“In general, I thought they pitched and caught it well. They're really efficient. Going in, you knew it was going to be, man, the ability. It's not necessarily the big explosives. They'll take their chances there, but they do a really good job of getting balls in the flat, check downs. That's where I feel like they've grown as the year's gone. Huge key was to be able to tackle those.”

On the struggles of the run game:

“I thought you saw us go to some outside zone stuff and some mid-zone. And again, you've still got to create movement on the front side of that for it to be able to string out and find holes inside. We just—we weren't good enough. We weren't, and we didn't find enough creative ways to be able to generate a run game.”

On the consequences of the end of the second quarter:

“That was where I thought, and we not only didn't flip the field, then we give up an explosive and now it's a 14-point swing where at 10-3, you feel like, alright, we're one drive away from being in it and you kind of get to a situation there where, like I said at halftime to our staff, like we're gonna have to create some chunks. It's a hard way to live when you're trying to press a little bit to create chunks.”
