Auburn played its first home game in a month Saturday, and its performance left fans heading for the exits early.
The Tigers lost 38-17 to Lane Kiffin and LSU, the largest margin of defeat this season for Auburn. Here’s what several Auburn players had to say following the loss.
Linebacker Elijah Melendez on the defensive performance:
“I feel like we just beat ourselves in missing tackles, misfits, and stuff. We just got to play faster and play better.”
Cornerback Rayshawn Pleasant on trusting the process:
“We were just here three weeks ago -- then we went on the road and beat the No. 1 team in the country. It's just the mindset we've got to have -- controlling the things we need to control, putting the work in each and every day and letting everything else play out.”
Quarterback Byrum Brown on the mindset following the loss:
“We soak in it today and then flush it tomorrow. Face what we gotta fix and on to the next opponent. Same as it was last week. Just have to just execute at the end of the day.”
Safety Champ Anthony on the message for the team:
“We look great as a team when we execute. And then of course, you look like shit when you don't. You've just gotta make sure we're on tape and just having focus. Like coach Golesh says, 6 to 8, 6 to 8, 6 to 8, 6 to 8 seconds every play. Maximum focus, maximum effort. And we didn't do that until the second half, so we just gotta keep rolling on that.”
Wide receiver Chas Nimrod on the struggles on first down:
“It definitely makes it tough because you’re in third-and-long or second-and-long, it doesn’t give you a chance to open up the playbook. Just being limited on things you can do and calls like a coordinator, that just changes the way you can play the game. Obviously, getting the first first down and just being able to move the ball and not hurt yourself, that helps a lot.”
