Auburn opponent review: How the Tigers' remaining schedule fared in Week 9
Auburn dropped consecutive games for the first time this season with its 45-15 loss to Ole Miss.
Nonetheless, the Tigers got through their gauntlet of an October slate and are now on to November. The November slate is looking much more manageable, with its next two SEC opponents trending down.
Here’s how the Tigers’ remaining four opponents fared in their Week 9 games.
Arkansas
Result: Arkansas lost 34-10 to Missouri.
Arkansas lost its fifth straight game to Missouri, as the Razorbacks were walloped at home. KJ Jackson threw for 229 yards and had one pass intercepted, while Arkansas tallied just 59 yards rushing and averaged 1.6 yards per carry. As a team, Arkansas committed four turnovers in the loss.
Meanwhile, Missouri rushed for over 200 yards against the Razorbacks’ defense, which also gave up two passing touchdowns from Austin Simmons.
Next up: Arkansas (3-5) travels to Auburn (4-4)
Mississippi State
Result: Mississippi State lost 31-3 to Texas.
Without Kamario Taylor, Mississippi State is a totally different team. The Bulldogs have lost four straight after starting the season 4-0, and this weekend was another blowout loss. Between quarterbacks AJ Swann and Parker Puckett, the Bulldogs barely surpassed 100 yards passing, while the rushing game amounted to 68 yards rushing.
Defensively, it wasn’t much better. Texas’ Arch Manning tossed three touchdown passes in a game for the third time this season, as Texas cruised to a comfortable home win.
Next up: Mississippi State (4-4) hosts Vanderbilt (0-5).
Samford
Result: Samford defeated Wofford 10-9.
Samford started the season 1-6 but has since rattled off back-to-back victories, with the latest a one-point win over Wofford. All 10 of Samford’s points came in the fourth quarter, including a 44-yard field goal as time expired. The Bulldogs tallied 310 yards of total offense and didn’t turn the ball over.
Next up: Samford (3-6) travels to East Tennessee State (6-3)
Alabama
Result: Alabama was on a bye week.
Next up: Alabama (6-2) travels to LSU (6-2).
